Deaf, like David
Whether you scanned the QR code in your book or you're here to get a copy, we're so glad you're here. This page is for parents, teachers, schools, librarians and caregivers who want to deepen children's understanding of Deaf identity, American Sign Language and inclusive communication.

A true story about belonging
Follow David as he discovers the vibrant world of American Sign Language. Along the way he makes new friends, overcomes challenges and learns to celebrate who he truly is: wonderfully Deaf.
It's based on a true story. David is Professor Jenny's dad, David Stewart. The book is written by a CODA (Child of a Deaf Adult), educator and lifelong signing-rights advocate with deep roots in the Deaf community.

Connection comes in many forms
"And remember," says David, "signing isn't just a skill: it's a bridge to communication, understanding, and belonging."
This story is rooted in lived experience, Deaf culture and the belief that all children deserve access to communication. Thank you for being here, and for helping children learn that connection comes in many forms.
